21 February 2023 – University of Minnesota Crookston students enrolled in Hort 3030 – Residential Landscape Design recently partnered with community volunteers from Heritage Village in East Grand Forks to look at modifying the landscaping around village buildings. Students met with the volunteers to understand their needs and used client input, combined with what they learned in class, to create new landscape designs for each site.
After multiple meetings with community partners, the final designs were presented during finals week by the students and associate professor Eric Castle.
Students involved in the project include sophomores David Maschhoff (Horticulture major) and Marie Wald (Horticulture major), juniors Elena Berger (Horticulture major), Katherine Hansen (Agronomy/Horticulture major), and Autumn Mattson (Horticulture major), and senior Trace Brayton (Golf & Sports Turf Management/Sport & Recreation Management major.)
